  • To start, you’ll need one thick marker, one thin marker, scissors and glue.

  • In your pack, you’ll find G. F Smith white paper.

  • Play the first playlist ‘5 songs, 5 patterns’. You’ll find 15 songs in total. You can do the prompts to just the first five tracks, or do all 15 songs! Just repeat the prompts in your Music + Awe booklet.

  • Follow the prompts in your Music + Awe booklet for each track, listening closely to the rhythms and sounds to inspire different marks, shapes, colours and patterns.

Sounds of Awe Collage

Bonus Celebration Activities

Here are some creative ways to transform your Music + Awe patterned paper and leftover coloured paper into festive decorations!

Layered Paper Baubles

Additional materials: String or thin ribbon

Steps:

  • Cut Circles: Use a circular template (like a glass) to trace and cut out 8–10 circles from the patterned paper. These circles will be layered to create a 3D effect.
  • You might like to mix different patterns or add solid-color layers behind to create contrasting visual effects.
  • Fold and Glue: Fold each circle in half with the patterned side inward. Glue the backs of the halves together one by one, forming a stack.
  • Add String: Before gluing the last two halves, attach a loop of string in the centre for hanging.
  • Open the Bauble: Gently fan out the circles to create a 3D spherical bauble.

Concertina Paper Star

Additional materials: String

Steps:

  • Cut Strips: Cut strips of paper (about 4 cm wide and 20–30 cm long).
  • Fold Accordion Style: Fold each strip into a concertina (accordion) pattern. Keep the folds even.
  • Join Ends: Glue or staple the two ends of each folded strip together to form a circular fan. Repeat this with two or more strips.
  • Assemble the Star: Glue multiple fans together to create a star shape.
  • Attach a string for hanging.
  • Tip: Use varying strip sizes for stars of different diameters.

Geometric Paper Ornaments

Steps:

  • Make Diamond Shapes: Cut out 6–8 identical diamond-shaped pieces from the paper.
  • Fold and Assemble: Fold each diamond in half to create a crease. Glue the edges of the pieces together to form a geometric ornament.
  • Hang: Attach string to the top for easy hanging.

Paper Tree Decorations

Additional materials: Wooden sticks or twigs

Steps:

  • Cut Shapes: Cut out triangles or other festive shapes (like stars or stylised trees) from the patterned paper.
  • Layer the Shapes: Glue different layers together, slightly offset, to create a dimensional look.
  • Attach Sticks: Glue the finished shapes onto small wooden sticks to display in plant pots, vases, or table centrepieces.

Sounds Paper Chains

Steps:

  • Cut Strips: Cut long, thin strips (2–3 cm wide) from the patterned paper.
  • Sounds Inspired Shapes: Use scissors to create zigzag or wavy edges along the strips, mimicking some of the music you’ve been listening to.
  • You can mix zigzagged and smooth-edged loops to create rhythm and variety in the chain.
  • Link the Chains: Form each strip into a loop and secure with glue or tape, threading each loop through the previous one to build a chain.
  • Decorate: Use the chains to wrap around a tree, hang as garlands, or line the table.
