Motivation Menu / Activity

Feeling flat? This activity gives you quick, simple ways to reboot your energy and move gently back into action.

Motivation isn’t fixed — it comes and goes, and that’s completely normal. Sometimes you need rest. Sometimes you need to dance it out. And sometimes, especially when a deadline’s looming, you just need a way to begin. I’ve pulled together full projects in a single day when the deadline was tight — and honestly, that pressure can be magic. But it’s not always ideal. This activity is for the foggy days — the ones where you can’t quite get started. Pick one thing and start there. The rest will follow.

Activity: Motivation Menu

A pick-and-mix list of small actions to gently get yourself going.

1. Get outside
Fresh air. A short walk. A minute of sunshine. Nature will do half the work for you.

2. Move your body
Stretch. Shake. Dance. Whatever feels good. Music helps. Bonus points for bare feet in grass or sand.

3. Meet people
Go for a coffee, call a friend, or head to one of our creative workshops or something like The Self Hood’s co-working days. Sometimes you just need to get out of your own head and into a room with actual people!

4. Ask yourself why
Why do you really feel unmotivated? Is it fear? Boredom? Burnout? Getting honest helps you move forward.

5. Clear your space
Set a 20-minute timer. Do a light clean or tidy — then stop. You’re not avoiding the work, you’re preparing for it.

6. Choose one thing
What’s one task you can do today that actually matters? Start there. The rest can wait.

7. Set a 30-minute timer
Open what you need to work on. Set the clock. Begin. You’ll probably do more than you think.

7. Make a playlist
Or use ours. Music = mood shift. You don’t have to feel motivated to start moving.

9. Create your own cheat sheet
Use your next good day to make a list of things you enjoy doing, ideas you want to explore, or small wins that helped you feel better. Keep it somewhere easy to find.
